Robert Chapman

(Angleterre - England)

Born in London in 1958, Robert Chapman first studied Chemistry and had a 12-year career as an oceanographer before returning to university to study Music and Technology at Lancaster in 1992. He is currently undertaking a research degree at APU.

Robert has been producing electroacoustic music for over 15 years. One of his main interests has been in collaborating with musicians and artists from different media to create pieces combining music with theatre, dance, performance art and installations. Recently he has been experimenting with Video Art as a medium for combining music with visual arts and reaching a wider audience.

All the sounds in this piece are generated live. The saxophone is heard directly and treated through digital electronics. Some of the saxophone sounds are captured using a sampler and replayed from a keyboard. The piece is an improvisation with only the very opening devised in advance. The rest is the result of spontaneous interaction between the performers, and the unpredictability of the outcomes of real-time sound processing.
