Anne-Marie Fijal

(France)

Anne-Marie Fijal has been composing and performing since the 1970s. She prefers intermixing her music with other forms of expression and has had an impressive list of collaborations with prestigious stage directors, painters, dancers, actors and writers.

Her passion for the world of theatre has lead to the composition of five music theatre works. Partition, based on a text by Jean-Yves Picq, is the latest and was performed in Paris in 1991. For it she composed and directed a theatrical oratorio for two actors and one string quintet. She also writes for dance and film. In March 1996 she was commissioned by the ZDF Arte to provide the musical dramaturgy and score for the classic film by F.W. Murnau, "Der Brennende Acker" (the Flaming Earth: 1922).

Fijal was the recipient of France's 1989 Dramatic and Music Critic Award for her achievements.
