(U.S.A.)

Born October 21, 1917, Cheraw, South Carolina; died January 6, 1993, Dizzy Gillespie was one of the greatest jazz trumpeters ever. He was innovative and experimentational in his style of playing. Along with Charlie Parker, he revolutionized "BeBop," or modern Jazz. He entertained with his crazy, eccentric personality. Dizzy was known for his wild clothing, bent horn, practical jokes, horn-rimmed sunglasses, dancing, and keen sense of humor. His musical talent and free spirit won him the nickname, "Clown Prince of Jazz."
