P.Q. Phan

P.Q. Phan has been commissioned by the Kronos Quartet (three times), the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, the Greater East Lansing Symphony, the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, the Samaris Piano Trio, the First Music 8-Consort, William Albright, Harry Sargous, and many others. His works have been performed by the Kronos Quartet, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Radio France, the American Composers Orchestra, the Cincinnati Orchestra, the St. Louis Orchestra Chamber Group, the Sinfonia da Camera and others. His music has been performed in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Lithuania, Russia, Denmark, Israel, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, and Japan.

Phan has received the Prix de Rome, ASCAP Standard Awards, Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowships, Charles Ives Center for American Music, and residencies at the MacDowell Colony. Recordings are with Nonesuch, L.A. and an upcoming CD from CRI.

Born in Vietnam in 1962, Phan immigrated to the United States in 1982 and received a BM from the University of Southern California and a DMA in Composition from the University of Michigan. Phan's music integrates the musical aesthetics of Southeast-Asia and the West. Previously a member of the faculties of the University of minois and Cleveland State University, Phan is currently Associate Professor of Composition at Indiana University.
