A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Daniel Worley began studying guitar when he was ten, and forming bands when he was thirteen. At eighteen, after a spiritual crisis, he decided to pursue a career as a composer. Since then he has received many awards, honors, and commissions, including the 1999 SEAMUS/ASCAP Student Commission, two ASCAP Young Composer Grants, a Charles Ives Scholarship, a Tampa Bay Composers Forum Prize, and two Regents Fellowships from the University of Michigan. He has also received commissions from the Albany Symphony, Tulsa Philharmonic, the Dogs of Desire, TONK, the Ryoanji Duo and Timothy McAllister among others.
Daniel is currently working on an large scale oratorio "Freak Show" for chamber orchestra and rock quintet, loosely (and tangentially) based on the play "The Elephant Man." "Freak Show" is currently scheduled for CD release in late 2001. |
