| Jon Gudmundson was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington, USA. He is currently Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina, USA. Jon has studied with William Wicker, Julia Nolan and most recently with Roger Greenberg at the University of Northern Colorado. Jon's performing credits include appearances with The National Repertory Orchestra, The Cheyenne Symphony, The Bloomington (Indiana) Chamber Orchestra, and the Brevard Chamber Orchestra, with which Jon recently performed the world premiere of Richard Rendleman's Celebration for alto saxophone, piano and orchestra. In the jazz area, Mr. Gudmundson has performed with The Harry James Band, Bobby Shew, Bobby Watson, Claudio Roditi, Donald Harrison, and many others.
Jon has served as clinician, adjudicator, featured soloist, and lecturer at conferences and festivals across the nation, including the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 2 Conference, International Association of Jazz Educators National Conference, and the UNC, Indiana State University, Bloomington (Indiana), Holyoke (Massachusetts), Head of the Lakes (University of Minnesota), and JAZZBrevard Jazz Festivals. |

| Mirage for alto saxophone and piano was composed in the winter of 1998. It is a short, single-movement work that explores the visual effect of a mirage, but in an aural sound world. Musical ideas are continually shifting, appearing and then suddenly disappearing, producing effects of surrealism and distorted realities. By about the halfway point in the piece, both the saxophone and piano attempt to "attach" themselves to a single idea in hopes of solidifying reality. After an intense struggle, the opening "mirage-like" elements return and the piece "wisps" away. Mirage is dedicated to my good friend, saxophonist Jon Gudmundson. | ||||||
