Michael N. Jacobson is presently an Associate Professor of Saxophone and Music Technology at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. In addition to his duties as saxophone professor, he is Director of the state-of-the-art MIDI lab established as part of Baylor's new Music facility, completed in the Fall of 1992. He has developed a comprehensive music technology curriculum, which includes basic computer skill and music software courses through advanced applied MIDI applications. Before instituting the technology curriculum, he taught Jazz Studies and directed the University Jazz Ensembles.

Before joining the Baylor faculty in 1984, he was an Assistant Professor at Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, where he was the Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Saxophone. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Arizona State University in Jazz Performance and Theory and Composition, and earned a Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from Indiana University, which also awarded him their prestigious Performer's Certificate.

He is active as a performer in both the jazz and classical idioms. The jazz artists and entertainers he has performed with include Bill Cosby, Lou Rawls, Sammy Davis Jr., and The 5th Dimension, among many others. His classical performance has earned him grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and has taken him all over the United States and Europe for clinics, performances, and master classes.

Mr. Jacobson was President of the North American Saxophone Alliance from 1994-1996, and has also acted as Region 4 Director (1984-1994), and Membership Director (1980-1984) of the organization. He is also active as a columnist, and contributes regularly his "MIDI for MidIots" column in Jazz Player magazine, and the "Music and Technology" column in the Saxophone Journal.
