Variations [saxophone alto et piano / alto saxophone & piano]

Patrick Jones, age 25, is currently pursuing his doctorate under the supervision of Distinguished Professor Eugene Rousseau at Indiana University. He received a Master of Music from the Eastman School of Music and his Bachelor of Music for the University of Idaho. Currently, he is teaching the Woodwind Techniques course at Indiana University. He has performed in various ensembles ranging from saxophone quartets, orchestras, musicals, jazz bands, jazz combos, wind ensembles and woodwind trios. Patrick was the recipient of the IWash's Young Artist Concerto Competition and was selected to perform a concerto with their Symphony. He was also chosen as the best jazz saxophoninst at the Lionel Hamton Jazz Festival and runner-up for the best jazz instrumentalist. Patrick has been awarded various scholarships over the years including teaching assistantships from Eastman as well as Indiana University. | ||||
Variations is a continuous fifteen minute work whose three sections correspond to the fast-slow-fast movevents of a traditional sonata. This is a theatrical piece intended to appear at the end of a program. Included in the variations are cadenzas, one for each instrument and brief illusions to standard saxophone repertoire. | |||||
