American saxophonist Timothy Roberts, a native of Richardson, Texas, is currently Principal Saxophonist and a National Tour Soloist with The United States Navy Concert Band in Washington, D.C. Since his tenure in the band began in 1987, he has performed in Europe, Russia, and throughout every one of the continental United States. He has also been featured numerous times as soloist at the U.S. Capitol and throughout the Washington D.C. area.

As winner of the National Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition (1991) he appeared as soloist at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, performing Jacques lbert's Concertino da Camera. The Washington Post was on hand for the performance and described his unique style as "simply stunning". In addition, his quartet was a medal wmner at the The Coleman Chamber Music Competition im 1987. In 1985 he made an appearance on Holland Radio and TV in Amsterdam and was later accepted into the 1987 class of Jean-Marie Londeix at the Bordeaux Regional Conservatory in France. Mr. Roberts makes frequent appearances with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and has also appeared with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He can be heard on three recent Dorian compact discs with the Dallas Symphony - Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky, Bernstein's On the Waterfront, and highlights from Gershwin's complete opera, Porgy and Bess. He is also the soprano saxophonist with the Dallas Symphony on a new Delos recordmg of Gershwin's original jazz band recordmg of Rhapsody in Blue.

Mr. Roberts holds a masters degree m Orchestral Instruments from The Catholic University of America, and he received his bachelors degree in Saxophone Performance under the instruction of Dr. Fred Hemke at Northwestern University. At the Navy Band's 15th and 18th International Saxophone Symposiums of 1992 and 1995, he premiered two pieces written especially for him by Wilfred Holcombe, Concerto for Alto Sax and Brass Quintet and Rhapsody for Alto Saxophone.

He has developed a popular master class entitled "Developing a Disciplined Practice Routine" that was premiered on a compact disc sold alongside the September 1994 issue of Saxophone Journal. He is in much demand throughout the country as a soloist with university, college, and community wind ensembles . In addition, Mr. Roberts performs with the Washington D.C.- based East Coast Saxophone Quartet and publishes a regular column on the saxophone quartet for Saxophone Journal. He is a clinician for the Selmer Company and maintains an active teaching studio out of his home in Alexandria, Virginia.

Mr. Roberts recently completed a major European festival tour with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. His tenor saxophone compact disc is entitled Vocalise, and can be found on the Open Loop label.
