Ragtime Performance by the Saxophone Quartet |

| Ragtime music, originally composed for the piano, provides an excellent vehicle for study and performance by the Saxophone Quartet. Ragtime, which has been called "America's first original music", is a basic and altogether remarkable fusion of Afro-American rhythm, American folk song, and European lilt. The typical piano arrangement of a syncopated melody in the right-hand played against a steady rhythm in the left-hand can be applied directly to the instrumentation of Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone Saxophones in the Saxophone Quartet.
Some of the Royal City Saxophone Quartet's philosophies regarding performance and memorization techniques will be demonstrated and discussed. A forum for questions will follow.
