Marco Albonetti

Marco Albonetti is from Italy and holds degree from the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro, Italy, studying under Prof. Enzo Veddovi, plus a Master's from Bowling Green State University studying with Dr. John Sampen. He studied saxophone previously with Jean-Marie Londeix and Eugene Rousseau at the International Sommerakademie "Mozarteum" in Salzburg.

He has competed and won first prize in a number of international competitions, including the Roodeport International Eistedford of South Africa, the 5th International Competition "Isola di Capri", and the 13th International Competition for Young Musicians "Città di Stresa". A member of the internationally-recognized Transcontinental Saxophone Quartet, he won Forst place National winner of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition, and Prize winner in Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. He has soloed at festivals in Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Cyprus, Africa, U.S.A., and recorded for SABC, PIKI, LTV Lumier, Cypriot Radio.

Mr. Albonetti is active in the performance of both traditional and contemporary music and has commissioned and premiered works by such wel-known composers as D. Maslanka, J. Arbison, C. Scinto, A. Gentile and several others. He is currently preparing for the world premiere of a new sonata by G. Schuller and a solo work by B. Rands. He stands as principal saxophonist for the Accademia Bizantina Orchestra conducted by Luciano Berio. He is Professor of Saxophone at the "Conservatorio Statale di Musica di Bari," Italy and instructor at The Flint Institute of Performing Arts. He is currently teaching at Lawrence University and is a doctorate candidate at Michigan State University where he studies with Prof. Joseph Lulloff, James Forger and Brandford Marsalis.

The Trio is a five movement work performed without breaks between movements. The composition, designed with Bartok's "Arch form" in mind, is highly motivic and dramatic in nature. The work also incorporates extended techniques for the saxophone and piano as part of the motivic and harmonic structure.

Le Trio est un ouvrage en cinq mouvements sans interruption. Construite sur la forme en arche de Bartok, la composition est de nature très motivique et dramatique. L'oeuvre incorpore des techniques modernes au saxophone et au piano comme partie intégrante de la structure motivique et harmonique.
