The Osland Saxophone Quartet is a chamber ensemble based in Lexington, Kentucky. It's members have brought together musical experiences from both the East and West Coasts, as well as the Mid-West. Miles Osland (soprano), a Selmer Clinician, is currently Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Kentucky. Lisa Parent Osland (tenor), a Yamaha Performing Artist, is an Instructor of Saxophone and is the Director of Saxophone Ensembles at UK. Jonathan Anderson (alto), a former teaching assistant at UK, is currently Director of Instrumental music at Victoria College in Texas. Larry Nelson (baritone), is presently a performer and music educator in the Lexington area where he directs the UK Lab Band.

The Osland Saxophone Quartet is unique in that it's repertoire spans both classical and jazz genres. They are dedicated to diversity, leaving no musical stone unturned.

Their debut recording, "Kentucky Roastup" has been hailed by critics as "a great example of music to come, and the gualit~es that it will take to be a part of it: eclecticism, technical prowess and positive energy".

Miles Osland has distinguished himself as an educator, recording and performing artist, author, arranger and composer. Currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Saxophone at the University of Kentucky, he has appeared throughout North America and Europe as a guest conductor, performer and clinician for Selmer Saxophones and Bay Woodwind mouthpieces. His compositions and arrangements, available through Walrus Music, have been recognized and supported by fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kentucky Arts Council, and by numerous other arts foundations.

Two of his recordings, "Saxercise" and "My Old Kentucky Home", have been submitted for Grammy nominations by Sea Breeze Jazz Records, one of the most respected labels in jazz. His latest recording for Open Loop Jazz Records, "An Old Speckled Hen at Snapes Malting", was inspired by his experiences while performing in England. Mr. Osland's three sets of books are available through Dorn Publications and his scholarly work in saxophone technique and jazz improvisation can be found in a variety of publications including Downbeat, Jazz Educators Journal, Jazz Player Magazine, Saxophone Journal and Windplayer Magazine.

Professor Osland holds a Master's degree from Eastman School of Music and his major teachers have included: Ramon Ricker & Gary Foster (saxophone), Charles Bay (clarinet) and Jim Walker (flute).

Lisa Parent Osland is the Instructor of Saxophone and Director of Saxophone Ensembles at the University of Kentucky. She received her instrumental training at the University of Massachusetts where she studied with Lynn Klock and went on to become a graduate assistant under Ramon Ricker at Eastman School of Music. While at Eastman, Ms. Osland was credited with receiving the coveted Performer's Certificate and the prestigious Graduate Teaching Award.

A busy performer, her credits include appearances with Wynton Marsalis, Doc Severinsen, Ben Vereen, Ray Charles, Rosemary Clooney, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, the Springfield (MA) Symphony, the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, and many others. Lisa is an active clinician for the Yamaha Corporation of America as a Yamaha Performing Artist. She has also written CD reviews for the Saxophone Journal.

Jonathan Anderson is originally from Lincoln, Illinois. As a saxophonist, he received his early musical training from Keith Zimmerman. He holds Bachelor's degrees in both Music Education and Music Performance from Millikin University where he studied with Anne and Chris Kelton. He also holds a Master's of Music degree from Ball State University where he studied and was a graduate assistant under George Wolfe. Mr. Anderson, a former teaching assistant at UK, is currently Director of Instrumental music at Victoria College in Texas.

Larry Nelson is a performer and music educator in the Lexington, KY area. He is currently adjunct Professor of Clarinet at Georgetown College and director of the UK Lab Band. During the summer, he teaches classes in the Music Technology Department at the University of Kentucky. Nelson also performs on saxophone and bass; in addition to the Osland Saxophone Quartet, he is a member of the Miles Osland Little Big Band and plays frequently with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra. Nelson has appeared with such artists as Ray Charles, Ben Vereen, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Jim Nabors, and B.J. Thomas.

Bob Mintzer, well known American Jazz artist, composer and tenor saxophonist has accepted a commission project by the Osland Saxophone Quartet. The piece will definately have jazz/classical influences.
